Spotlight on Genevieve Villemaire: Volunteer Extraordinaire

Genevieve Villemaire is a natural leader and wears many hats in our community - including a brand new Sugar Pine Foundation cap!

In addition to working full time at the US Forest Service and being a dedicated mother and outdoorswoman, Genevieve co-leads the local Cub Scout Pack 592.

This spring, Genevieve and her pack came up with the idea to help restore the Caldor Fire burn scar by making stickers and raising money and awareness for our Caldor Fire plantings by tabling at local supermarkets. It seemed only fitting to give her one of our hats to help promote our organization and our spring plantings with the Scouts!

The Scouts braved cold and snow to advertise our plantings in front of local supermarkets and had a blast interacting with shoppers and running around the parking lots despite lousy weather.

Genevieve reported, “They sure did have fun! At end of first day (4 hrs), one boy said to his dad ‘I wish we could rewind and start all over again Dad!’”

Genevieve and her Scouts traveled to Placerville and Kyburz to plant with us in heavy rain in March and after unseasonable snow in early April. They also came out to help plant the bulldozer line behind Mule Deer Circle on Earth Day.

Genevieve always has a smile on her face and makes leading 20+ Scouts look fun and easy. Not only that, but she always has energy to spare!  At the tail end of the Mule Deer planting, Genevieve rallied a group of volunteers for a special photo op by sprinting up a steep trail, arranging the volunteers in front of a freshly planted seedling, and throwing herself on the ground to capture a perfect picture with the baby seedling in the foreground and the happy volunteers assembled above.

Genevieve's masterful shot of our awesome Wells Fargo Bank volunteers from the Bay Area.
