Education

We know that to bring back the sugar pines, educating community members or all ages is vital.  Education is one of our main areas of concentration.

Interactive & Interdisciplinary

We can design a fun educational experience within the curriculum requirements for different grade levels.  Learning activities may include:

  • Tree identification and measurement
  • Forest ecology and history
  • Fire ecology
  • Wildlife studies
  • Watershed science
  • Orienteering

Who We Work With

We partner with the Sierra Watershed Education Partnership (SWEP), Tahoe Institute of Natural Science (TINS), US Forest Service, Tahoe Resource Conservation District and other groups to organize Student Plantings for local school children.  Every year, we host over 500 students on outdoor fieldtrips to teach them about forest health and plant thousands of trees in and around the Tahoe Basin.

Other Outreach

Our educational offerings for interested life long learners include:

  • Guided hikes at Van Sickle Bi-State Park
  • Educational presentations to citizen groups such as Soroptomist International, Sierra Club, Rotary Club, and the Senior Center
  • We are present at many events such as Earth Day, Autumn Fest, Tahoe Forest Stewardship Day, and environmental awareness days held by local ski resorts.

We also work with interested college students and have mentored independent studies, internships, and research partnerships.
